History of the Dish
It is known that the green plantain – used for this dish – has been recorded for centuries. Some even speculate that it arrived in the Americas around 650 AD through migrations. Once cultivated on the continent, it became very popular for its sweet and tropical flavor.
Research has led to the conclusion that the green plantain bowl originates from Cuba, specifically during the period of British occupation, when there was a mix of Cubans and Black slaves brought from England.
Thus, in such an environment, one day, the Africans resorted to dishes typical of their continent to create something completely new. For this, they decided to use the boiled green plantain as a base, creating a food they called "fufú".
Over time, this dish spread to different countries, such as Ecuador, where it was renamed "green bowl" and some ingredients were changed.
